Re: What laptop should I get?

My understanding is that the Lenovo Thinkpad E16 is: 1st out of the 8 on large screen size 1st jointly on age (it's new) 1st highest screen resolution 2nd, for screen brightness 3rd for sRGB (colour) coverage of the screen 2nd, maybe 3rd for engineering quality of the chassis and lid 2nd, jointly, ...

Re: What laptop should I get?

The budget does allow to buy new. There's 3 new laptops in my shortlist. ;) As a user experience I think Windows has gone downhill since 7. Especially bearing in mind that the competition in Linux has moved on nicely over the last 10 years... I don’t like Windows and avoid it as much as possible bu...

Re: What laptop should I get?

I've added a poll and edited the first post - for my list of leading contenders :epopc:  My answer has to be “I haven’t a clue”. The best experience I had with a Windows computer was a Dell but that had a corporate build copy of Windows 7 Pro. I know Windows has improved massively since then...

Re: I have joined the mainstream

This hobby is not important to me anymore so I guess it doesn't matter as long as you enjoy the music. I never really saw Hi-Fi as a hobby, I just wanted to listen to music. Ultimately my main system was chosen because it had a remote control. Is the frequency response of that remote control accura...

Re: Royd A7

Thanks, sounds like the way to go. I was kind of hoping that Dr Bunsen might drop by and point out that Joe Ackroyd was a genius and always mounted dust-caps askew, then smeared them all over with milky gunk (his being a genius and all). I am sorry to tell you that unfortunately “Dr Bunsen” won’t b...

Re: Royd A7

Latteman, thank you. Don't know the term for this but I imagine a cone has some kind of factored in residual compliance, assuming the extra glue compromises cone's ability to move back and forth etc., dust cap or no dust cap isn't all that glue an issue? These are small, inexpensive speakers (as yo...

I've lost count of the times I have been asked to provide in-flight maintenance. In practice there isn't much that can be done beyond the usual "switch it off, wait a bit, switch it back on".
