Re: DACs

If anyone wants to try a supply with an active second stage rather than the passive filters in those things, just let me know.

Re: Things I don't understand: Component Isolation

Some of the options seem insane as well. For example: http://www.townshendaudio.com/hi-fi-home-cinema-equipment-vibration-isolation/hi-fi-home-cinema-vibration-isolation-equipment-stand-rack/ Well, it may be valid to question Max's sanity, but I dont see why you point those supports out as insane. ...

Re: Is owning a turntable worth it?

You make valve gear, you know perfectly well if you sent any of it to a test house it would amost certainly fail as would over 90% of valve gear, if not 100%. The product in question that passed third party safely and emission regs is a valve based two box phono stage, so I can't agree with you the...

Re: Is owning a turntable worth it?

AND will it all become redundant when we say FECK YOU to the EU daft regs along with the EU itself and sell most to the US and the far east  Well, in general, I didnt see any reg in there that I would call daft, they were all based on the idea of not killing your customer. Most are based on ...

Re: Is owning a turntable worth it?

Two things about that cert cost. 1. I do understand the regs, but in this case I wanted to get a third party check, to at least know my understanding was correct. There were a few things I do different now because of that check. 2. It had a clock in it, so needed EMC testing. You can't just understa...

Re: Is owning a turntable worth it?

OK. parts cost £3k. Does that mean a 'dealer trade' cost of £17k or so and retailing at £30k? You use a distributor, so maybe the mark-up is split three ways? Not sure 'everything' from China is cheap crap, but I take your point. £7k to certify for CE is a pain though... No, my aim with these is to...

Re: Is owning a turntable worth it?

may well cost a couple of grand to make (can it cost more?), but the case and meaty transformer will account for most of this cost I reckon. I would check the price of good quality electrolytic caps as well. And lets make a guess and say it takes a day to build. So thats one persons wage for a day....
