Re: A simple philosphy
It seems to me that the forums do perform one useful function....by demonstrating just how divergent all our views are. You don't get agreement on anything at all....the whole hobby is a form of anarchy, which is just fine. There are no gods in audio, although there are plenty of sinners.

Well, I helped a guy who opened a case against NWA at the Small Claims Court; it was settled by NWA without a hearing. Suffice it to say that the guy was somewhat unimpressed by work they did. I'd also use Goldring. I feel more confident about them.

Re: Muslims.......
Have you people not an ounce of shame? The language of the first 'options' with it's use of the word 'eradication' is just vile. Many of these people are British Citizens. It's not 'free speech' it's just nasty bigotry. I won't post on this forum again. I won't be the only one to feel utter disgust.

Re: high-end gear
Nothing wrong with Tisbury, cheap and cheerful but sounds fine to my ears. In the right (well-matched) system, a decent little passive can outperform a quite expensive active preamp, sometimes. I'm not sure that hi fi can be arranged by price these days, not above quite a low figure. So there's fun ...

They do the same with watches. Seiki have 'domestic' watches, which are generally considered superior. They also do a very superior model..the 'Grand Seiko' which until recently was unavailable In Europe.

I used to buy glorious Japanese kit out of my student grant in the 70s ....you'd see hordes of fellow students at Comet buying Pioneer amps and 12D decks. Then we would live on porridge and home-brewed beer for the term. As has been said, good and bad. As now. The real issue for me is the Japanese a...

Re: high-end gear
I dabble at both ends of the spectrum; I've owned six Koetsus over the years, but I routinely recommend the £79 Shure 97xe. I've owned numerous products from Absolute Sounds, and quite a few more exotic Japanese items (Air Tight, Shindo, Accuphase). But I currently use the basic Croft RIAA and Lines...

Re: Grado Prestige cartridges
There never has been, and never will be, a perfect component. Direct drive motors can fail, just like anything else. It's not 'fear' it's common sense. Anything made by human being can develop a fault. If anyone can think of a single item of audio which is perfect, and cannot fail, do let me know. E...

Re: Grado Prestige cartridges
We used to have a great local shop, 'Steve's Hi Fi', which usually had half a dozen old Japanese DD decks; Steve and his techie, Dave Watson, were really good at keeping them running. However they always warned that if the DD motor went, repairs were sometimes impossible. That's the risk you take......
