Re: AoS

You trolling me now Dave? As you should know Dave, dealers make 60% and more from many cable makers, so I don't think I was exaggerating here. The Klotz MC5000 in 1m runs with nice plugs would be £150 at least if sold via a retailer, as would SSC by the way. I can't mention SSC over there (the best ...

Re: Balanced v Unbalanced

OK, I give in ;) Finally found some better pics of the boards and they're not as symmetrical as I thought - https://www.diyaudio.com/forums/solid-state/180314-help-repair-krell-ksa-50s.html Not sure if non members can see these pics though, but you can see why this amp terrified me shitless.. I'll s...

Re: Balanced v Unbalanced

I can't find the schematic for the S version over the totally different original, so can't argue with evidence. Scroll down and you can see all the 'versions' of the Krell 50 model number. The one I had (KSA50S) is two thirds down and the number of components inside scared the bejesus out of me. htt...

Re: Balanced v Unbalanced

The Krell power amp I ran for a while (and now owned by Macca), is fully balanced right from the XLR input socket and making it usable for standard RCA cables means tying one of the input sides to ground, which according to the manufacturers, degrades it's sonic potential. In THIS case, due to the p...

Re: Modern speaker brands that make the BEST music

The originals to me, squawked and screeched and no amount of adjustment or positioning could fix it - the L65 Jubal was my favourite back then. By the late 90's, the short-lived 4311mk2 (I think that's the monika, but this model has had several name changes in its life) had a much refined crossover,...

Re: Modern speaker brands that make the BEST music

What's the view on ATC? I like the sound of a company who make their own drivers, and whose drivers are so often used by others. I found the ATC SCM11's disappointing when I heard them with a Hegel 360 amp in a bake off againts AVI DM10's with a sub and EV Sentry III's with a Korneff clone SET and ...

Re: The modern brands of speaker that make the most shite music

Dyn-Audio as a breed!
Older Kudos models and maybe some newer ones (the large active Titan's were horrible when I heard them last year)
Modern KEFs which can take your fillings out - all in the cause of more 'deeeetail!'

Re: The Audio Standard Forum.

Tri-amped Isobarik people in my experience (we sold loads of these expensive systems for our sins) ALL had healthy record collections and this kind of setup didn't really appeal to those with loads of gear and only a handful of test records. I'm informed that streaming systems make up a lot of the L...

Re: make your own g88

Those very old Lenco arms aren't as bad as you'd think either ime. In addition to Ortofon and Grado, Audio Technica now do 'pro' versions of their new VM 95 series - https://eu.audio-technica.com/cartridges/moving-magnet/AT-XP5 - which should be a more durable version of the VM95E, which these arms ...

Re: Soggy sonics

You know this will only start a debate on the different sonic abilities of tap v bottle v distilled. Right in the middle of the whole Peter Belt saga (if you don't know what I'm on about, then you really don't NEED to know ;)), I visited Jimmy with a pal who was a GP and well aware of psychology in...
