Re: Another DIY SS Amplifier with NVA Boards

The only valve amps that sound any good are really expensive and certainly not the 300B variety. Even then they struggle to do bass properly. Some sound good in a musical sense such as Audio Note but they aren't half coloured. So they are in no way accurate except if you believe they correctly repro...

Re: (in)FAMOUS SLURPS

Not expensive but certainly a slurping activity. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rega-turntable-service-get-your-Rega-turntable-sounding-and-looking-its-best-/121668746874 What could be more simple for a user to make adjustments to a Rega TT given all the information on-line. More likely make it worse tr...

Re: AoS

No nothing obvious to any unsuspecting newbie who has had no part in this conflict. I think new members will go away if they get one of Marco's PMs soon after joining. Forum posting is pretty much now down to a few asslickers.

Re: (in)FAMOUS SLURPS

I think there might be some acoustic truth in this. The things you stick on with blue tac are just a cavity machined in a short piece of metal rod. They could well break up standing waves so you hear a 'difference'. The level 1,2,3,4 is just bullshit to sell you more boxes but it would stand to reas...

Re: Hi fi Hum

Well the OP mentioned 3 types for starters. Was talking in general but two types I find most annoying (as in previous post). 1. Earth related and 2. Transformer buzz / hum. If we are discussing transformer noise only - The interesting conundrum regarding transformer noise is why it varies by locatio...

Re: Hi fi Hum

Most hum in my experience is due to some type of earth loop or lack of earthing. Even issues between certain components that use a different internal earthing arrangement. Obviously using a passive pre helps in this situation. Also mains problems that affect certain component transformers. I have a ...

Re: AoS

What a rant! Marco is obsessed with NVA and should get a life. Allows it in equipment lists because otherwise would have to boot his friend Macca.

Re: Are SSC interconnects screened?

So it is when the 2 offending power supplies are attached? If so the connectors on the power cables may have developed a fault when being dismantled / transported.

Re: Are SSC interconnects screened?

Sounds like a bad connection on the amp cable terminals. I think NVA shielding itself is not connected and works on faraday cage principle. Have you another phono cable that can be tried which would isolate it to the amp if still buzzing?

Re: gyrodec tonearm combo

For a Gyro at realistic money I would suggest the Audiomods arm. It uses a drilled out Rega arm tube but the rest of it is bespoke. The other arm that I have heard on the Gyro working well is the Audio Note Arm (1/2/3) available in different versions of wiring. If you want MC cartridge I suggest AT ...
