Re: Damp A80 Mk 1s

They were not powered up. Possibly only transformers, caps and rectifier covered but I cant be sure. I was on holiday but neighbors say water went down quickly.
No sign water got under insulation.

Re: Damp A80 Mk 1s

I would like to follow Latteman's advice but I am sure i would destroy my amps. The problem with the insurance claim is that,on reading my policy carefully, I find that I should have mentioned them as expensive items. I can only claim the second-hand value and that wouldn't stretch to a new set, and...

Damp A80 Mk 1s

This might not be the right place for this, but to get to the point; I arrived from Greece on Monday and discovered that the West of Scotland had had a deluge on the previous Saturday and my listening room had been flooded There was water inside my lovely A80s. I took off the front panels, in the ma...

Re: My lights went out

Replaced the transformer and it all seems fine. I will keep an eye on it for overheating and will go back to turning off when not listening.

Re: My lights went out

I managed to move the speakers across the room, which is not easy due to the large amount of steel plate in them, and plugged them into an old Cambridge Audio amp installed in a hi fi unit and the tweeters seem ok. I intend to try replacing the transformer which I happen to have from my external PSU...

Re: My lights went out

I was a bit wary of connecting up the A80s in case it was a fault with the drive units that was causing the transformer overheating. I am still not sure why the transformer should suddenly decide to overheat. Anyway, my other half is calling me to head out, so will come back to this later. Thanks fo...

Re: My lights went out

The bass drivers are fine. I have A80s driving the bass and they are ok but yet to check the tweeters. I am not sure yet how to do that until I fix/ replace the A30.

My lights went out

I was watching tv last night when everything went dark. I thought it was a dry run for the upcoming "winter of discontent" but investigation, following the smell of cooking electronics, found that the cause was a cooking A30 I bought as part of the NVA starter kit in 2007. I use it to run ...

Re: Phono 1 MC

Finished the new power supply and am having a listening session with a variety of music, from Don McLean to ELO via deep Purple, Pink Floyd next. Daniel was right; there is a big difference with the 500VA transformer. I am not sure why it sounds better but it seems "quicker and bigger", I ...
