Re: PL-71
I've been looking for a nice PL-71 for a while, so picked it up after the Doc's "it's worth it" response. I know that people have picked them up for under £100, but considering it was in such good condition and boxed, I decided to take a punt. Glad I did as it's a wonderful sounding, "...

Re: BEST SOUND - VINYL OR CD....?
CD done right is better than vinyl, but there's so much more vinyl done right, and CD done wrong... I find a lot of CD masters have a horrible digital signature (especially 'digitally remastered' stuff), but listen to Massive Attack - Mezzanine, for example, and the CD beats the vinyl version in my ...

Re: PURE CLASS A - fact or fiction.
From: http://www.aikenamps.com/ClassA.htm "For audio amplification, a class A amplifier can be either single-ended or push-pull. Now, you might be thinking, how can a push-pull amplifier be class A? Doesn't one side amplify half the waveform and the other side amplify the other half? Isn't this...

Re: Rotel RCD-965BX History.
£300, it was released around 1992 IIRC. I used to own one, never did get round to fitting a better clock to it, which is a critical upgrade to bring it up to 'full potential' standards due to the nature of the bitstream DAC it has. In stock form it was easily bettered by something like a Beresford D...

Re: Royds...
Judging by the weight of a pair in the specs, I'd say they must have steel lining: http://www.roydaudio.com/models/sorcerer Yep, the Merlin is the non steel lined version of the Sorcerer, the Sapphire the non steel lined version of the Sintra, except the Sintra has a 'better' tweeter. I say better ...

Re: Royds...
Should work a treat with your NVA gear. I find that they respond to serious power and are ultra-revealing of downstream changes (despite having their own 'flavour' too).

Re: Royds...
I see that Royd speaker are highly rated here does anyone have any experience of the Sorcerer as I have an opportunity to buy a pair. Yes, I have a pair of Sorcerer (SE spec). They are one of Royd's better speakers IMO, certainly a step up from the Minstrel. Bit more refined & better tonal bala...
