Re: Balanced line mains

The new active (should really be called self powered passive) Cube, Cubix, Cubix-Pro modular speaker systems will have balanced line mains units built in, and so will the next versions (with price increase) of Statement power amps. Because I will be building these units and get better prices for qu...

Re: Interesting Twist!

Night two the HiFi was looking a bit ramshackle with the preamp edging out into the bottom left of the shelf (spot the preamp on the 2nd shelf down? :P) and the 2nd amp on a small stack of records beneath the turntable to accommodate the too short interconnects to the PA0 (SE). http://i1092.photobuc...

Re: Which are you?

None of the above really... I suppose ultimately, I don't want to be listening to the system or tweaking it, and just want to enjoy the tunes. This probably makes me an 'audiophile' in regression therapy, trying to get back to where I started, but with the extra pleasure and musical insight that a d...

Re: Interesting Twist!

Was a bit of a faff wiring things up, but happy that Joe Ackroyd decided to replace his soldered link between HF & LF speaker terminals with lugs & bolts in my RR3s. Upon first listen I knew something was wrong, and a quick left / right speaker test confirmed that one of the power amps had t...

Re: Integrated amps with plenty power/current.

I sort of agree with the "weedy" sentiment about the LFDs, but the difference with those amps is it's sins of omission (unbelievably natural tone and timbres from the LFD in comparison to Exposure) rather than trying to do it, just one of some a range of amps to have a listen to if possibl...

Re: Integrated amps with plenty power/current.

British-biased integrated suggestions would be:

Exposure 2010S2
LFD Zero or LFD Mistral
NVA AP50 and up

…not heard enough Naim (aside from listening to the Naim Nait 5i get killed by an Exposure 2010 integrated) to comment!

Re: Integrated amps with plenty power/current.

Naim, NVA, Exposure, LFD (all a natural match for Neat), whilst they don't do sustained current delivery (only monster amps with 10s of transistors do) they can deliver instantaneous high current delivery on transients, which is what really determines how powerful an amplifier really sounds. This is...

Re: Speaker quest continues - Rogers LS6a/2

They made exceptionally good drive units in the late 50's / early 60's and stayed pretty good up to the late 70's, but by the 80's they were crap. :( Goodmans was where Joe Ackroyd worked for years as an unsung hero while others took the credit. The good version of the Maxim was him no matter who p...
