Re: Modern speaker brands that make the BEST music

At Owston 2018 there were some musical DIY'd speakers. Or speakers that were musical for the amount spent on them.

Re: Modern speaker brands that make the BEST music

How about Spendor? They make their own drive units except tweeters and their own boxes.Beautiful natural well integrated sound. I have a pair of their Classic SP2/3r2 which is based on the classic BBC thin wall approach. They sound so rich and lush - velvety if you will. No squawking, shouting honk...

Re: Modern speaker brands that make the BEST music

What's the view on ATC? I like the sound of a company who make their own drivers, and whose drivers are so often used by others. I found the ATC SCM11's disappointing when I heard them with a Hegel 360 amp in a bake off againts AVI DM10's with a sub and EV Sentry III's with a Korneff clone SET and ...

Re: WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor)

There's a little bit on where the term "WAF"comes from here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wife_acceptance_factor One thing about WAF - as someone has already mentioned in this / the WAM thread - is that what A N Other Audiophile may think is the more WAF of 2 hi-fi components may not be actually ma...

Re: WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor)

The design priorities for too many modern speakers seems to be based around 1 WAF. This leads to a subest of priorities / parameters. 1 (a) make it look small from the front. As per the fashion in speakers. 1 (b) don't make it too big. 1 (c) make it look fashionably modern. 2 Having settled on a siz...

Re: The New Wigwam

So why is it closed = daft! That's strange. Last night I reported Blackmetalboon's final post in that WAF for being personally insulting to me. As I said in my report it's not highly insulting, but it is still insulting and off topic. So far I've not heard from the moderators on this. And his post ...

Re: Do phono plugs *really* sound different?

DSJR, if you can hear the differences between different interconnect cables in your system then you're doing better than me. The last time I compared interconnects (each with a different cable and plug) in my system I couldn't hear a difference, or the difference was so subtle that I didn't t...
