Re: NVA2

Yes and what Lurcher says about RIAA can be applied to having or not having a rumble (plus warped record) filter.

I can see the sense in not asking the power amp to feed large amounts of subsonic power to the woofers on warped records.
And I can see the less is more sense in not having a filter.

Re: New NVA member

I think there's every chance you'll be able to find speakers that you prefer to the Kef q35's without too much difficulty for £400. Especially if you go 2nd hand or DIY.

Re: NVA2

...I personally would have fitted a 47K resistor in place of the 68K feedback resistor to give a flat RIAA response, and probably ditched the 47uF tanatlum capacitor that gives the rumble filter function... By how much and at what frequencies does the NVA Phono 2 deviate from a flat RIAA frequency ...

Re: AoS

Yes, that bake-off at your house led to the whole of my hi-fi buying since then taking a different course. And very glad I am that it did.

If it hadn't been for that I may have been stuck in Linn La La Land to this day.

Re: Yorkshire HIFI club Phono Stage write up / results

I don't remember which was ordered, I have it in the back of my mind, because he wanted to use it in his own home system, that in order to make it more flexible he would use a SUT for MC step up. My apologies if he did indeed order an MM version. I was taking the following from YN at face value. I ...

Re: Yorkshire HIFI club Phono Stage write up / results

This whole episode is a little bit embarassing all round. A little bit embarrassing and no more than that. A little bit embarrassing in that the Doc sent a MM phono stage when an MC one was ordered. A little bit embarrassing for MCRU for not realising that it was an MM stage in advance of the bake-o...

Re: Footy

Cynicism is all relative. France Denmark playing out a mutually beneficial draw was cynical. England deliberatly losing / playing at friendly levels with Belgium was cynical. Russia parking the bus and playing for a penalty shoot out against Spain was cynical. Of all the teams, Belgium have played w...

Re: Footy

Regardless of whether England get to the final or not, for the generous NVA discount, this has been a highly enjoyable World Cup to watch on the telly. One interesting game after another. It has been a great festival of football.

That Fane looks like a nice driver and you can pick them up 2nd hand.
However they are more suited to ported enclosures than infinite baffles, according to the info supplied by Fane.
Could I find something better for my sealed box tastes for similar money?

Re: Moving to 4.0 or 5.0 or 7.0 from 2.0

I've been inspired by Owston last week-end ( http://www.audio-talk.co.uk/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=7226&start=165 ) Been thinking about assembling my own sub-woofers. The idea being to find some high sound quality, huge woofers and to put them in a DIY'd box. With the possibility to add some EV mid...
