Re: Jerry's ongoing system blog

Jerry goes streaming. TIDAL hi-rez straight from my PC via USB into my DAC-de-jour. Only just started playing with it. Shee-it. There's a classical music treasure trove on Tidal. :o I'll do a proper sound quality assessment over the next few days, comparing CD with the same streamed Tidal fi...

Re: Jerry's ongoing system blog

Well, the Dual Core thing is just a DAC and a basic pre-amp with some optional extra digital processing. As a DAC with the extra doodads turned off it is excellent, imo. I don't have a problem personally with taming bass resonance peaks in the digital domain, I suspect it is quite a transparent proc...

Re: Jerry's ongoing system blog

So what is 'real hifi' then Jammy?

Seems to me that getting rid of room resonances is likely to be a good thing. ;)

New toy !! http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii114/jandl100/DSCF6360_zps3m37uel7.jpg A room correction / DAC / pre-amp thingamejig. - one of these http://www.tnt-audio.com/accessories/dspeaker_antimode2_e.html It's a DAC and pre-amp, but its main purpose is room correction in the bass. It's...

Re: Schiit

Yep, I've heard they chose the name deliberately to get attention. It works! I've also heard that the house-sound is kinda laidback and "not your sort of thing, Jerry". I've heard lots of shit kit, but no Schiit kit, though, so I've no opinion on it other than that I dislike its minimalist...

Re: Jerry's ongoing system blog

I'm sure you're right - the current's the thing, those Jap amps just don't swing it. No real driving power for difficult loads.

Re: Jerry's ongoing system blog

Detail freak. heh heh - guilty as charged, m'lud. I do like to hear what is going on in a recording. I'm pretty sure my Maggie 1.6QR speakers killed my Sony amp - I had been driving them pretty hard at times  - I reckon the Amcron DC300A should be able to put those panels in their place, though.

Re: Jerry's ongoing system blog

As I pointed out in my post it has been fully serviced and checked out. No, the TQ Claymore genuinely has more detail. It's obviously more transparent when you hear it. Distortion doesn't come into it. But no, not suitable for pipe&slipper listeners who prefer to be enveloped by a nice warm cosy...

Re: Jerry's ongoing system blog

Eh, what about an old American amp, then, Dave ;) .... http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii114/jandl100/DSCF6328_zpsc9e1nj11.jpg Ah, they don't make 'em like they used to. This one has been 'fully fettled' and encased in its own mini-rack. Ugly enough for you, jammy? A bit of a powerhouse - m...
